CES 2026 sees Qualcomm introduce Snapdragon X2 Plus chipset for Copilot+ PCs

Qualcomm on Monday introduced the Snapdragon X2 Plus chipset for Copilot+ PCs, just ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show 2026. The new processor expands the Snapdragon X series for artificial intelligence focused personal computers and brings notable gains in performance and power efficiency. It joins the Snapdragon X2 Elite system on a chip, which was announced in September 2025.

The company said the Snapdragon X2 Plus is built for Windows laptops and two in one PCs that meet Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC requirements. These devices must offer a minimum level of neural processing unit performance to support local AI tasks.

During a press briefing, the chipmaker based in San Diego said the Snapdragon X2 Plus will use its third generation Oryon central processing unit. It will be paired with a powerful neural processing unit capable of delivering up to 80 trillion operations per second. This performance is aimed at handling advanced AI workloads directly on the device. Qualcomm expects the first consumer products powered by the new chip to launch in early 2026.

The Oryon architecture has been central to Qualcomm’s PC strategy since the Snapdragon X Elite platform launched in 2024. In the X2 Plus, the third generation design uses a custom Arm compatible core system. It is optimised for low power and sustained performance rather than short bursts of speed. Qualcomm did not share details about core layout, clock speeds, or cache sizes.

AI performance sees the biggest improvement over the previous generation. The earlier Snapdragon X Plus chipset delivered 45 trillion operations per second. With the X2 Plus, this figure rises to 80 trillion operations per second through a dedicated neural processing unit. This allows more complex AI tasks to be completed locally without relying on cloud servers.

Qualcomm also shared performance claims for the 10 core variant of the chipset. Compared to the 2024 X Plus platform, it offers 35 percent higher single core CPU performance, 17 percent higher multiple core CPU performance, 29 percent improved graphics performance, and a 78 percent increase in neural processing performance. The company also stated that the Snapdragon X2 Plus delivers multi day battery life and enhanced security, without providing further details.
