CERT-IN Urges Apple Users to Update Devices Immediately Due to Critical Security Risks

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has issued a high-priority alert for Apple users. The agency has identified several severe security vulnerabilities affecting a wide range of Apple devices, and is advising users to update their software immediately to avoid potential cyberattacks.

These vulnerabilities impact multiple software versions across Apple’s product line. Devices running iOS versions before 18.6, iPadOS versions before 17.9.9 and 18.6, macOS Sequoia before 15.6, macOS Sonoma before 14.7.7, macOS Ventura before 13.7.7, watchOS before 11.6, tvOS before 18.6, and visionOS before 2.6 are all at risk.

CERT-IN has stated that these vulnerabilities exist due to issues such as type confusion, use-after-free errors, buffer overflows, integer overflows, race conditions, and out-of-bounds memory access. These technical flaws could allow attackers to exploit devices using outdated software.

If left unpatched, these flaws may enable hackers to send specially crafted requests to affected devices. Successful exploitation could lead to unauthorised access to sensitive data, execution of malicious code, bypassing of security measures, or even denial-of-service attacks, which may render the device unusable.

In simple terms, users could face data breaches, privacy violations, and potential loss of important information if updates are not installed promptly. CERT-IN has strongly recommended that users update to the latest versions of Apple’s operating systems as soon as possible. These updates include necessary fixes to eliminate the vulnerabilities.

It is also important to note that Apple usually discloses such vulnerabilities only after security patches are made available. Therefore, keeping devices updated remains one of the most effective ways to stay protected against evolving threats.
