A coordinated investigation has led to the arrest of 6 people involved in a transnational cybercrime operation that targeted citizens in the United States. Acting on intelligence shared by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Central Bureau of Investigation dismantled a virtual asset backed fraud network that had been active since 2022.
The arrested accused have been identified as Shubham Singh alias Domnic, Daltanlian alias Michael, George T. Zamlianlal alias Miles, L. Seiminlen Haokip alias Ronny, Mangkholun alias Maxy, and Robert Thangkhankhual alias David alias Munroin. All are residents of northeastern States.
Investigators said that between 2022 and 2025, the accused posed as officials from US agencies including the Drug Enforcement Agency, the FBI, and the Social Security Administration. Using fake identities, they contacted victims in the US and falsely claimed that their Social Security Numbers were linked to money laundering and drug trafficking cases.
Victims were told that their assets would be frozen unless immediate action was taken. Under pressure, they were convinced to transfer funds to cryptocurrency wallets and foreign bank accounts. Authorities estimate that the group defrauded victims of approximately $8.5 million through this method.
The CBI registered the case on December 9, 2025, and carried out coordinated searches at locations connected to the accused in Delhi, Noida, and Kolkata. During the operation, officials uncovered an illegal call centre operating from Noida, which was allegedly used to run the scam.
Search teams seized ₹1.88 crore in cash, along with 34 electronic devices including mobile phones, laptops, pen drives, and hard disks. Several documents considered incriminating were also recovered during the raids.
Officials said the operation highlights growing cooperation between Indian and US agencies in tackling international cybercrime networks. Further investigation is underway to identify additional links, digital trails, and possible accomplices connected to the fraud ring.
