Carlsberg Group, the Danish brewing company, has announced the launch of its first Global Capability Centre (GCC) in India. The centre will focus on managed IT services, infrastructure operations, and application support for the company’s global operations, with special emphasis on automation-driven supply chain management and enterprise-wide standardisation, including ERP consolidation.
“With India’s exceptional technology talent and GSPANN’s support, this centre will help us strengthen our IT backbone, accelerate digital transformation, and embed new capabilities into our global operations. Beyond technology, this GCC ensures that we are better prepared to serve our customers, partners, and employees across more than 150 global markets where our products are enjoyed,” said Esther Wu, CIO, Carlsberg Group.
The GCC will be managed by IT services and consultancy provider GSPANN. It will operate from offices in Gurugram and Hyderabad. The Hyderabad facility will act as a backup office to access specialised skills and ensure flexibility in scaling. For now, the centre will run on a build operate transfer model, with Carlsberg retaining strategic control of its roadmap while GSPANN manages day-to-day operations, service delivery, and talent expansion.
“This GCC gives us the ability to unify our IT landscape and scale it globally. Our focus will be on building agile technology processes that enable faster go to market, smarter use of data, and secure, enterprise-grade operations across our footprint,” said Anurag Pandey, CTO, Carlsberg Group.
The centre will initially employ 300 staff across both Gurugram and Hyderabad offices. Wu said these employees will later be inducted as full-time members of the Carlsberg Group. The company has not disclosed the size of its investment in the project. Carlsberg aims to take full ownership of the GCC within three to five years. In later stages, the focus will shift to scaling AI use cases piloted by the group, as well as hiring for DevOps and go to market strategies.
This announcement follows Carlsberg’s recent decision to set up a new manufacturing facility in Karnataka with an investment of around 350 crore rupees.
According to Pandey, the new GCC will allow Carlsberg to bring in-house several processes that were previously outsourced to over 26 large vendors across Europe, including firms in France and even some of the Big Four in India. Executives emphasised that the decision is aimed not at cost reduction, but at consolidating services and advancing digital transformation.
As part of its long-term hiring strategy, the company will also collaborate with STEM institutes in India, including IITs and NITs, to recruit third year students through graduate engineering programmes starting in January next year. This will help students familiarise themselves with the company’s culture.
AP Grover, co-founder and president of GSPANN, said that not all roles at the centre will necessarily transition into full-time positions once Carlsberg takes full control of operations.
