Carbon Clean, a global leader in carbon capture technologies, has inaugurated its Global Innovation Centre (GIC) in Navi Mumbai. Spread across 77,000 sq. ft., the new facility is set to become one of the world’s largest centres dedicated to carbon capture research, marking a major step in the company’s mission to decarbonise hard-to-abate industries.
Advancing Carbon Capture at Scale
The GIC will act as a central hub for research, innovation, and technology demonstration. It houses two operational carbon capture plants along with advanced laboratories focused on solvent development and testing. The centre currently supports over 100 experts, with plans to expand the team to 350 employees as part of Carbon Clean’s global R&D and growth strategy.
Driving Innovation for Industrial Sectors
The facility will play a critical role in accelerating the development and deployment of CycloneCC, Carbon Clean’s modular and scalable carbon capture solution. This technology is specially designed for industries such as cement, steel, refineries, and energy-from-waste, providing a cost-effective route to cut emissions at scale.
“The GIC will be a game-changer in scaling our technology and accelerating next-gen carbon capture solutions,” said Aniruddha Sharma, Chair and CEO of Carbon Clean. “As a UK-headquartered company founded in India, this investment reflects our deep commitment to global industrial decarbonisation and India’s innovation ecosystem.”
Strengthening UK-India Clean-Tech Ties
The inauguration event was attended by senior representatives including Ajita Hathlia, Deputy Director, Trade and UK Exports, South Asia, along with global partners, investors, and board members. The UK Government has supported Carbon Clean over the past decade with more than £5 million in grants and strategic partnerships.
“This marks a significant moment in UK-India clean growth collaboration,” said Harjinder Kang, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner to South Asia. “Carbon Clean exemplifies the kind of UK innovation we aim to support in India’s expanding clean-tech sector.”
India’s Emerging Role in Global Carbon Capture
With pilot projects already in progress in partnership with NTPC, Tata Steel, JSW, and BHP, Carbon Clean is aligned with India’s upcoming national CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage) mission. The launch of the GIC strengthens India’s position as a key player in the global carbon capture value chain and underscores the country’s growing importance in clean energy innovation.
