Cabinet Approves Four New Semiconductor Manufacturing Projects in Odisha, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh

In a significant step towards expanding India’s semiconductor production capabilities, the Union Cabinet, under the India Semiconductor Mission, has approved four new semiconductor manufacturing facilities with a total planned investment of about ₹4,600 crore.

Two of these facilities will be set up in Odisha’s Info Valley in Bhubaneswar, which is expected to develop into a major national hub for semiconductor manufacturing. One facility will be established in Andhra Pradesh, while another will be set up in Punjab.

These new projects will cover advanced chip fabrication, packaging, testing, and discrete device manufacturing. With this latest approval, the total number of semiconductor projects sanctioned under the mission has now reached ten, including six that were previously approved. Together, these projects represent cumulative investments of around ₹1.6 lakh crore.

This decision is part of India’s larger “Make in India” and self-reliance strategy, aimed at reducing dependency on imported chips and building a strong domestic electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

The substantial investments are expected to significantly enhance India’s capacity in critical sectors such as telecommunications, automotive, data centres, consumer electronics, and defence technology.
