Chinese technology company ByteDance announced on Monday that it is launching a new artificial intelligence voice control tool, which will first appear on a smartphone made by ZTE Corporation. The feature will debut on the Nubia M153 phone before expanding to devices from other manufacturers.
The new AI assistant is powered by ByteDance’s Doubao large language model. It enables users to complete tasks through voice commands. These tasks include finding content and booking tickets in a simple and quick way.
The feature will enter a competitive market as several Chinese smartphone brands, including Huawei and Xiaomi, have introduced similar AI tools. Apple has not yet launched its Apple Intelligence service in China. However, Alibaba has said it will work with Apple to add AI features to iPhones in the country.
The Nubia M153, which will include the ByteDance AI tool, is currently a prototype priced at 3,499 yuan which is 495 dollars. It is available in limited quantities for pre order.
ZTE shares rose by 10 per cent on Monday. This was the company’s highest level since twenty nine October. The jump was supported by reports about the new phone and news that the company had secured several contracts to provide 5G equipment in Vietnam.
ByteDance said in a statement that it does not plan to make its own smartphones. The company is speaking with several phone makers to introduce the AI voice assistant across more devices.
ByteDance, which owns TikTok and its Chinese version Douyin, has become a major player in consumer AI apps in China. This is largely due to its chatbot Doubao.
Doubao recorded 159 million monthly active users in October. This number is much higher compared to Tencent’s Yuanbao with 73 million and DeepSeek with 72 million, according to the AI tracking platform Aicpb dot com.
