Koparkhairane Businessman Falls Victim to Online Gaming Scam, Loses ₹2.75 Crore

In a cautionary tale from Navi Mumbai, a 42-year-old businessman from Koparkhairane has been defrauded of a staggering ₹2.75 crore while engaging with an international online betting platform. The incident unfolded over a period spanning from December 2022 to April 2025, with the businessman placing bets on virtual games like Teen Patti and digital casinos hosted on the website www.satsports.com.

Lured by assurances of high returns, the businessman made transfers totalling ₹3.25 crore to various bank accounts linked to the platform. Initially, his account showed apparent winnings and he managed to withdraw ₹50 lakh. But things took a turn when his displayed balance vanished. On questioning the platform’s handlers, he received vague replies, raising his suspicion of foul play.

He approached the cyber police, who promptly registered a First Information Report under the provisions of the Information Technology Act. Cyber police inspector Vishal Patil confirmed that the fraud became evident when the complainant attempted to access his winnings, only to discover businessman’s account had been wiped clean.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that the fraudulent site is run from overseas, with operators using Virtual Private Network technology to mask their locations. Officials have also tracked the accounts where the funds were funneled, as the probe continues into this complex digital web.

The case underscores growing concerns around unregulated online betting platforms and serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in chasing virtual fortunes.
