Marking International Women’s Day 2026, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a new feature called Kavach Number. The service allows women users to generate a temporary 10-digit number so they do not have to share their actual mobile number with shopkeepers while recharging their phones.
The Kavach Number is time-limited and may expire after use. Users may need to regenerate a new number for future recharges at retail stores. The idea is to protect personal phone numbers and reduce privacy risks when interacting with retailers.
Women users can generate the Kavach Number through the BSNL Self Care app or the company’s official website. It can also be obtained by calling customer care. Users can dial 1800 180 1503 or 1500 and press 9 to access the service.
Each Kavach Number acts as a temporary replacement for the user’s real mobile number. When this number is shared at retail stores for recharges, it keeps the original phone number hidden from the retailer.
The service is designed to address privacy concerns that arise when customers share their phone numbers during recharge transactions. In some cases, sharing a number at stores can lead to unwanted calls or messages.
The Kavach Number aims to reduce such risks by allowing women to use a temporary number instead of their actual one, especially in locations where digital payments are less common and store-based recharges are still widely used.
BSNL clarified that the feature does not require any additional SIM card. Any charges, if applicable, have not been specified so far.
The new service offers a simple way for women users to keep their personal information private while continuing to recharge their mobile connections through retail outlets.
