Britannia Industries has confirmed a major leadership change as it prepares for its next phase of growth. The company has appointed Rakshit Hargave as its chief executive officer and executive director for a five year term, as disclosed in a stock exchange filing.
His appointment will come into effect on December 15, the day he joins the company, and remains subject to the approval of its members.
Before this move, Hargave served as the CEO of Birla Opus, the paints business of the Aditya Birla Group. According to a stock exchange filing from the company, “Hargave joined the Company in November 2021 and has played a significant role at the Birla Opus start up stage of the decorative paints and the initial scaling up of the business. He has helped build a high performing team and in this four year phase, established six integrated manufacturing facilities, scaled distribution and supply chain networks nationwide.”
The filing added that these achievements form a strong foundation for the brand as it continues to grow. The board also thanked him for his role in the project to launch phase of Birla Opus and noted that his successor will be announced later.
During the interim period, Himanshu Kapania, managing director of the company, will oversee the paints business directly. The filing described him as a veteran of the consumer industry with experience in India and abroad.
Hargave brings extensive experience from several leading consumer companies. At Beiersdorf, he headed operations in the Asean and ANZ regions and also led the Africa business. He served as the managing director at Nivea India. Hargave has worked with Hindustan Unilever in sales and marketing, with Kimberly Clark Lever and as chief operating officer at Lakme Lever. At Jubilant Foodworks, he was responsible for launching the 30 minute delivery model for Domino’s Pizza.
He began his career at Tata Motors and later joined Nestle India. Hargave holds an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies in Delhi and a degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Varanasi. He has also been honoured with the Distinguished Young Alumni Award by his institute.
