In a significant stride toward a cleaner and greener Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated a 2-megawatt solar power plant near the Bikram lock canal in Patna district. Set along the banks of the canal, the solar energy project has been developed on land belonging to the Water Resources Department and symbolizes the state’s commitment to sustainable energy under its ambitious Jal Jeevan Hariyali initiative.
Addressing the gathering, Bihar Chief Minister said, “This solar plant will contribute significantly to our efforts in reducing carbon emissions and shifting to clean energy sources. We are identifying more such spaces near canals and embankments to develop similar renewable energy projects.”
The solar facility has been built by a private energy firm and will be managed under a 25-year agreement. Energy from the plant will be supplied at ₹3.10 per unit, promising affordable and reliable power to nearby areas. Apart from reducing the burden on traditional energy sources, this initiative also aims to create new job opportunities for locals while enhancing the state’s renewable power output.
With the solar plant now operational, Bihar takes a firm step forward in its mission to integrate sustainable infrastructure and reduce environmental impact. The Energy Department’s top officials, including Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal, were also present at the event to share more insights on the growing scope of solar energy in the region.
This Bihar project not only powers homes but also inspires a future where development and sustainability go hand in hand. Bihar’s journey toward energy independence continues to bloom—lit by the sun and guided by vision.
