Bengaluru to open India’s first startup and technology museum by 2027

Bengaluru will soon be home to India’s first museum dedicated to startups and technology, with the project expected to be completed by 2027. The museum will be set up on the NGEF campus in Baiyappanahalli, where an old Switch Gear factory shed will be transformed into a twelve thousand square metre innovation space. It will be developed through a public private partnership between the Department of Electronics, IT and BT and S and T, along with the civic initiative UnboxingBLR.

The museum aims to document nearly five decades of India’s journey in science, technology and entrepreneurship. It will showcase key milestones, groundbreaking ideas and the innovators who shaped the country’s digital growth. Visitors will experience interactive exhibits, immersive storytelling and technology based installations that highlight India’s evolving innovation landscape.

A global request for proposals for the museum’s design will be released soon. The project is estimated to cost around one hundred crore rupees and will follow a three year development timeline. Its goal is to create a world class destination for students, industry professionals and technology enthusiasts.

A governing board will guide the initiative, bringing together industry leaders and government representatives. Along with the board chair from UnboxingBLR, leaders from major organisations will contribute to the overall vision. Senior officials from the IT and BT departments will ensure that the museum aligns with the state’s broader innovation plans.

The museum will be located beside Innoverse, a deep tech incubator supported by the government and spread across eleven thousand square metres. Together, these developments reinforce Bengaluru’s focus on innovation and its role as the country’s leading startup hub.

More than a tribute to past achievements, the museum aims to inspire the next generation by connecting history, current advancements and emerging technologies within a single space.
