Bengaluru has been ranked 26th in the Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) City Index, becoming India’s top hub for AI research, development, and data centres, as per the latest report from a market research firm.
The ‘2025 AI City Index’ highlights that cities like Bengaluru, Riyadh, Hangzhou, and Sao Paulo are among the fastest-growing AI hubs globally. Within India, Bengaluru is followed by Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata in the rankings.
According to the report, Bengaluru’s strong startup ecosystem, combined with its AI R&D capabilities and growing data centre infrastructure, has attracted considerable foreign investment, positioning the city on the global AI map. Cities like Mumbai and Delhi are also using AI for traffic management and public safety, and are expected to move up in future rankings.
However, the report also stresses the need for a comprehensive AI roadmap and stronger regulatory frameworks in Indian cities to unlock the full potential of artificial intelligence.
Globally, Singapore secured the top position, followed by Seoul, Beijing, Dubai, and San Francisco. Singapore’s leading position is credited to its collaborative public-private initiatives and a thriving startup environment, particularly in sectors like healthcare, transport, and telecommunications. Seoul has gained attention for its AI use in education and healthcare, while Beijing has announced AI education for all school students beginning in 2025.
The report also predicts that ongoing investments in supercomputing will reduce the gap between North America and China in the AI sector over the coming years.
From an industry perspective, Microsoft was named the most active AI vendor, thanks to its expanding data centre network, AI training programmes, and innovation hubs. Google and Amazon have also made strides by strengthening infrastructure and rolling out similar initiatives.
