Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with TuTr Hyperloop, a deep-tech startup incubated at IIT Madras, to jointly develop India’s first indigenously designed Hyperloop transportation system.
Hyperloop is an advanced high-speed transport system in which passenger or cargo pods move through sealed tubes in a near-vacuum environment. The pods glide at very high speeds using Magnetic Levitation and Linear Induction Motor propulsion technologies, as explained by BEML.
Under the terms of the agreement, BEML will act as the principal manufacturing partner for TuTr Hyperloop. The collaboration aims to develop a prototype Hyperloop pod capable of transporting both people and goods at ultra-high speeds. The system will be powered by cutting-edge propulsion mechanisms like Linear Induction Motors and Maglev technologies.
According to a statement released by BEML, this partnership is expected to pave the way for a faster, greener and more efficient mode of transportation in India. “This partnership is a leap forward for India’s aspirations in high-speed, clean transportation,” said Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML.
“It exemplifies our commitment to Viksit Bharat 2047 and Atmanirbhar Bharat by turning futuristic mobility into a reality powered by Indian engineering, innovation and manufacturing,” he added.
The MoU was signed by Lingaraj V Viraktamath, Head of Corporate Technology Planning and Alliance Management at BEML, and Aravind S Bharadwaj, Director and Chief Executive Officer of TuTr Hyperloop. The signing took place in the presence of Shantanu Roy, along with Prof V Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, and Rajeev Kumar Gupta, Director of Rail and Metro at BEML.
“At TuTr, we are translating deep scientific research into practical technologies that can transform the way people and goods move,” said Prof Kamakoti.
