Autodesk Laid Off 1,350 Employees to Boost AI Investment

Autodesk Inc, a design software leader based in San Francisco, has revealed plans to eliminate around 1,350 jobs. The firm, recognized for its software utilized in architecture, engineering, and construction, indicated that this reduction is part of a larger restructuring strategy aimed at enhancing efficiency and redirecting resources towards artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing projects. These layoffs will affect approximately 9 percent of Autodesk’s global workforce.

In a communication to staff, CEO Andrew Anagnost emphasized that the decision to downsize was made internally and not due to external factors.

“This decision was made by myself and the CEO staff and is not the result of any third-party pressure,” Anagnost said. “We long understood the need to drive more efficiency and focus following the implementation of the New Buying Experience, and we were always going to act on that need independently.”

Autodesk company’s restructuring coincides with its shift to a subscription-based model and the introduction of its New Buying Experience, which seeks to streamline customer interactions and enhance billing procedures.

“These changes position us to better meet the evolving needs of our customers and channel partners,” said Anagnost.
