Atlassian has opened a new research and development centre in Bengaluru, marking a major step in its rapid growth in India. Spread across more than two lakh square feet, the new space is four times larger than its earlier facility and is designed to accommodate at least 1,000 employees across two levels. The expansion highlights Atlassian’s strong commitment to the Indian market.
Atlassian began its operations in India in 2018 with only 60 employees. Since then, it has grown to more than 2,500, making India home to its largest workforce outside Australia and the United States. Nearly 75 percent of its employees in India are engaged in research and development, working on key areas such as enterprise search, commerce, data residency and customer success.
Rajeev Rajan, Chief Technology Officer at Atlassian, said, “This new world-class R&D centre is more than just a larger space; it’s a symbol of our investment in the future of work, distributed teamwork, and most importantly, the exceptional talent we have here in India.”
Avani Solanki Prabhakar, Chief People Officer, added, “Our Team Anywhere approach allows us to attract and retain top talent, regardless of location, tapping into the amazing skillsets across the entire country.”
The new facility is part of Atlassian’s global strategy to strengthen its operations and scale up capabilities. India plays a central role in this growth, especially within the Asia Pacific region, as the company continues to focus on delivering advanced collaboration and productivity solutions for teams worldwide.
