Anjani Kumar was named Chief Digital & Information Officer by Ather Energy Limited, a Bengaluru-based maker of electric two-wheelers, the company announced on May 30. Kumar will be in charge of the company’s technology infrastructure and digital strategy for operations related to customer experience, manufacturing, and product development.
The appointment takes place as Ather Energy integrates more sophisticated software capabilities and broadens its range of products and business models. Kumar will be in charge of teams in the fields of digital engineering, business intelligence, manufacturing execution systems, IT & security, and web technology.
Throughout the automotive, technology, logistics, pharmaceutical, and financial services industries, Kumar has twenty-four years of expertise in digital transformation and IT innovation. At Fortune 500 firms like IBM, Nissan, Cognizant, Strides Pharma, and Tata AIG, he has occupied top roles.
“As we grow rapidly as an organisation, with multiple products, new business models, and deeper software integration, the complexity naturally increases,” said Swapnil Jain, Executive Director and CTO at Ather Energy. “Building robust systems with a backbone to leverage AI on top of enterprise data is going to be critical for our growth.”
Kumar has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from NIT Rourkela and a postgraduate degree in marketing and management from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. ‘Digital Leader of the Year’ and ‘India’s Top CIO’ are among the leadership honors he held.
Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain created Ather Energy in 2013, and it now sells two product lines: the Ather Rizta family convenience scooters and the Ather 450 performance scooters. The business created the Ather Grid, the first two-wheeler rapid charging network in India.
As of March 2025, Ather had 3,611 neighborhood chargers and fast chargers installed worldwide, including 33 in Nepal and Sri Lanka and 3,578 in India. With more applications pending, the firm now has 309 registered trademarks, 203 registered designs, and 47 registered patents worldwide.
India’s market for electric two-wheelers has expanded as people choose more environmentally friendly modes of transportation. Ather Energy emphasizes data-driven operations and digital integration throughout all business activities to position itself as a technology-focused manufacturer in this growing industry.
