Astrophel Aerospace secured Rs. 6.84 crore to build reusable launch vehicle

Pune-based deep-tech startup Astrophel Aerospace has raised ₹6.84 crore (around $800,000) in pre-seed funding to fast-track its work on building a reusable semi-cryogenic launch vehicle and advanced missile-grade guidance systems. The funding round was led by individual investors and angel venture firms and will support in-house research, boost propulsion development, and scale up testing infrastructure.

The startup recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for joint research, development, and testing. This partnership marks a major step in establishing Astrophel’s growing credibility in India’s private space sector. Notably, the company had already test-fired a semi-cryogenic engine with an investment of only ₹6 lakh and without any prior external funding.

“Reusable rockets, turbopump-fed engines and missile-grade guidance systems are among the toughest challenges in aerospace today,” said Immanuel Louis, co-founder of Astrophel Aerospace. “The funding will enable us to deep-dive into development while staying lean and execution-focused.”

Astrophel’s Co-founder and CEO Suyash Bafna added, “India’s private space sector is ready to tackle high-complexity, deep-tech challenges in aerospace. We’re building reusable systems and precision components that reduce costs and will usher in a new age of space access for India.”

Astrophel is developing its Potentia C1U engine using a modular, systems-first approach inspired by automotive manufacturing practices, reflecting the startup’s goal of building efficient and reliable space systems.

The timing of this funding aligns with the growing opportunities in India’s space sector. According to the Department of Space, India’s space economy is expected to expand from $8.4 billion in 2024 to $44 billion by 2033, creating immense potential for companies like Astrophel.

The startup has also received ₹40 lakh under the MeitY SAMRIDH Scheme to support its development efforts. With this backing, Astrophel is preparing for its first suborbital launch and aims to play a crucial role in strengthening India’s future launch infrastructure.
