L&T selects Nextpower Arabia to supply solar trackers

Larsen and Toubro has moved ahead with a key supply decision for one of Saudi Arabia’s largest solar developments, reinforcing the Kingdom’s push toward clean energy expansion. The Indian engineering and construction major has chosen Nextpower Arabia to provide advanced solar tracking systems for the 2.25 GWp Bisha Solar project.

According to a news report, Bharathi Kumar, general manager renewable international at L&T, said the company has “tremendous confidence” in Nextpower Arabia’s capability to deliver advanced, utility grade solar solutions that will maximise performance and support the long term delivery of low cost clean energy at the Bisha plant. He also noted that localising production of the tracking systems would improve efficiency across the development process and reduce both costs and environmental impact linked to international shipping.

The Bisha Solar project is being developed by a consortium led by ACWA Power and was procured by the Saudi Power Procurement Company under Wave 6 of the National Renewable Energy Program, overseen by the Saudi Ministry of Energy. Located in the Asir Province, Bisha is the largest solar project awarded in Wave 6 and represents a major addition to Saudi Arabia’s growing utility scale renewable energy portfolio, supporting its long term energy diversification and decarbonisation goals.

The 2.25 GWp order is the first major project for Nextpower Arabia, a newly established joint venture between Nextpower and Abunayyan Holding that is now fully operational. Through localised sales, manufacturing, logistics and supply chain capabilities, the venture aims to enable faster deployment of large scale solar projects across the Middle East and North Africa, while contributing to industrial development and workforce growth. Dan Shugar, founder and CEO of Nextpower, said the region remains a key strategic market, adding that the Bisha project builds on longstanding partnerships with ACWA Power and L&T, while strengthening domestic supply chains to support Saudi Arabia’s long term energy transition.
