Apple is reportedly working on a new display technology for its first foldable iPhone, aiming to address one of the biggest challenges in foldable devices—visible screen creases. Recent leaks suggest the company is testing a dual-layer glass structure to improve durability and user experience.
According to supply chain information, the foldable iPhone may use a combination of UTG (ultra-thin glass) and UFG glass layers, placing the display between two thin sheets of glass. This design could prevent the screen from directly contacting the hinge during folding, reducing stress and minimising crease formation over time.
The device is also tipped to feature “self-healing glass” and an improved hinge mechanism. These upgrades are expected to enhance durability, smoothen the folding action, and further reduce visible wear on the display.
Apple has been working on solving crease-related issues for some time, focusing on both display structure and hinge design to deliver a more refined foldable experience.
Expected specifications:
- 7.8-inch inner display
- 5.5-inch outer display
- Dual rear and front cameras
- Touch ID integrated into the power button
- Powered by a 2nm A20 Pro chip and Apple C2 modem
- iPad-like interface with split-screen apps and sidebars
The foldable device is expected to follow a book-style design and could be branded as “iPhone Ultra” instead of “iPhone Fold.”
In terms of pricing, the 256GB variant is tipped to cost around CNY 15,999 (approximately ₹2,14,400) in China and $1,999 (around ₹1,84,700) in the US.
While these details are based on leaks and remain unconfirmed, they indicate Apple’s focus on entering the foldable segment with improved durability and design innovation.
