Apple to Make Robotics Mandatory for iPhone, Mac and Watch Production

Apple is reshaping its global supply chain by making robotics and automation a compulsory requirement for its manufacturing partners. The company, which has encouraged automation for more than two years, is now said to make it a condition for securing new contracts.

According to a report from a common news source, the move is part of Apple’s wider strategy to reduce reliance on human labour, maintain consistent product quality across factories, and manage long-term costs. People familiar with the matter said the requirement applies to the production of iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models.

Suppliers are now expected to fund their own automation upgrades, unlike earlier when Apple provided financing for machinery and tools. This shift has increased pressure on contractors who face higher upfront expenses and temporary disruptions during the installation of robotic systems. Some suppliers are reportedly experiencing lower profit margins as they adapt to the new process.

Apple is introducing these changes while also pursuing its 2030 goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its supply chain. As part of this environmental agenda, the company continues to help partners adopt energy-efficient machinery and sustainable raw materials. The adoption of robotics is expected to enhance digital quality checks, simplify the onboarding of new suppliers, and reduce risks linked to labour shortages or political challenges as Apple expands production outside China.
