As anticipation builds around Apple’s upcoming software updates, new details suggest a major upgrade to its virtual assistant with expanded capabilities and third-party integrations.
Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) on June 8. Reports indicate that the company will launch a new dedicated Siri app across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, offering more advanced functionality than the current version.
Unlike the existing setup, where Siri is accessed through voice commands or shortcuts, the new app will allow users to open Siri directly and view past conversations. This marks a shift toward a more interactive and persistent assistant experience.
The updated Siri will support both voice and text inputs. At present, Siri relies on Apple’s Foundation Models and can also fetch additional information using ChatGPT, with or without an account.
A key feature of the update is the introduction of third-party “extensions.” These will allow AI apps installed on a device to integrate with Siri. Users will be able to access information from tools like Gemini and Claude directly through Siri.
To support this ecosystem, Apple is expected to create a dedicated section on the App Store that highlights apps compatible with these extensions. This will help users discover AI-powered integrations more easily. The company may also generate additional revenue through its standard 30% commission on eligible in-app purchases.
More details about these updates are likely to be revealed at WWDC 2026, where Apple is also expected to introduce iPadOS 27 and macOS 27. The redesigned Siri update has reportedly been in development for over 2 years, making it one of the most anticipated announcements at the event.
