Apple reportedly advances AI wearable strategy with smart glasses and new device concepts

As technology companies look beyond smartphones for the next phase of innovation, Apple is reportedly exploring a new generation of artificial intelligence-focused hardware. According to a report by a journalist, the company is working on multiple wearable devices, including smart glasses, camera-enabled AirPods, and a wearable AI pendant. These products are said to expand Apple’s ecosystem beyond the iPhone and Vision Pro, with early prototypes already under internal testing.

The report suggests that Apple’s upcoming smart glasses could become the first device in its AI-centric lineup. Designed to be lightweight and consumer-friendly, the glasses are expected to differ from the developer-focused Vision Pro headset. Internally codenamed “N50,” the device is reportedly not standalone and will connect wirelessly to an iPhone, allowing heavy processing tasks to be handled by the phone while the glasses manage data capture and lighter functions.

Early prototypes are said to include cameras and microphones that collect environmental information. This data may power AI-driven features such as object recognition, contextual prompts, and live assistance.

In addition to smart glasses, Apple is also reportedly developing AirPods with outward-facing cameras. These earbuds could gather visual information about the user’s surroundings and integrate with Apple’s AI systems to improve spatial awareness and contextual interactions. The concept may support gesture controls, environmental understanding, and more proactive Siri responses. Reports also suggest that the “next AirPods Pro can see around you”, and the product could launch at the same price as the current model.

Another experimental device under development is a wearable AI pendant designed to be worn around the neck. The pendant is said to include cameras and sensors capable of continuously analysing surroundings. Using both on-device processing and cloud-based AI, the device could deliver real-time insights and assistance, potentially functioning as a digital companion.

These projects are reportedly part of Apple’s long-term strategy to reduce dependence on the iPhone by introducing new AI-powered product categories. However, none of the devices has been officially confirmed, and further details may emerge in the coming years.
