Apple Records $9 Billion Sales in India Ahead of iPhone 17 Launch

Apple has achieved a new milestone in India, recording over 9 billion dollars in annual sales during the last fiscal year, just days before the global launch of the iPhone 17 series. According to a report by a common publication, this marks a 13 per cent rise compared to the 8 billion dollars it made in the previous year.

The growth has been driven largely by iPhone sales, which now account for 7 per cent of India’s smartphone market, as per data from Counterpoint Research. At the same time, demand for Macbooks in the country has also shown a sharp increase.

Apple’s rising revenue in India comes at a time when the company is facing slower sales in other global markets, particularly in China where competition from domestic brands like Xiaomi has intensified. While Apple’s revenue in China rose by 4.4 per cent in the quarter ending June 2025 after two years of decline, its performance in India has been much stronger, with revenue growing 1.5 times in the last three years.

India is also playing a central role in Apple’s manufacturing strategy. One in every five iPhones is now made in India, with production expanding across five factories, including new units in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Apple is expected to manufacture all four models of the upcoming iPhone 17 in India.

Retail strategy in India
Apple is also strengthening its retail footprint to meet growing demand. The company opened two new stores in Bengaluru and Pune last week. Wendy Beckman, Vice President of Apple Retail, said that for many Indian consumers, the stores provide “a really good introduction to the ecosystem and everything with our products too.” She added that the outlets offer hands-on experiences where “people can play and have the ability to discover and explore our products with support from the teams.”

Apple launched its first online store in India in 2020 and followed it with physical outlets in Mumbai and New Delhi in 2023. The company is now planning to expand further with a second store in Mumbai and a new store in Noida expected next year.
