In a clear sign of rising confidence, Apple has reportedly increased its order for foldable display panels ahead of launching its first foldable iPhone. The move points to expectations of strong market demand as the company prepares to enter a segment currently led by Android brands.
According to a report by a news publication, Apple is now targeting up to 20 million foldable panels from Samsung Display. This marks a notable increase from earlier estimates of 13 to 15 million units. The higher order volume suggests Apple is gearing up for significant demand for its upcoming device.
The foldable iPhone is expected to debut in the second half of 2026. Samsung Display is likely to begin mass production of these panels in May and will serve as the primary supplier.
Apple may brand the device as the iPhone Ultra instead of the iPhone Fold. Pricing is expected to start at CNY 15,999 (approx. Rs. 2,14,400) in China for the 256GB variant. In the US, the starting price could be around $1,999 (approx. Rs. 1,84,700).
The device is expected to feature a 7.8-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a 5.5-inch outer screen. It may offer an iPad-like interface, allowing users to run 2 apps side by side, along with app sidebars for easier navigation. Apple is also reportedly working on developer tools to optimise apps for the larger display.
On the hardware front, the foldable iPhone is expected to be powered by the 2nm A20 Pro chipset and include Apple’s in-house C2 modem for connectivity. The device may feature dual rear cameras, dual front cameras, and a Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button.
