Apple introduces MacBook Neo with A18 Pro chip and 13-inch display

Apple has unveiled the MacBook Neo, positioning it as the company’s most affordable laptop so far. The new device features a durable aluminium enclosure and is available in 4 colour options — blush, indigo, silver and citrus. Like other modern MacBooks, it carries a sleek design and a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, which is essentially an IPS LCD screen.

To reduce costs while maintaining performance, Apple has equipped the laptop with the A18 Pro chipset, originally introduced with the iPhone 16 Pro series. The processor includes a 6-core CPU with 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. It is paired with a 5-core GPU that supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing and a 16-core NPU for AI tasks. Despite using a smartphone chip, Apple says the MacBook Neo can smoothly handle everyday activities such as browsing, streaming content, editing photos and running AI tools.

The laptop ships with 8GB of unified memory and offers 2 storage options — 256GB and 512GB. Apple claims the device can deliver up to 16 hours of battery life when used for video playback. It runs on a 36.5Wh battery and includes a 20W USB-C power adaptor for charging.

In terms of connectivity, the MacBook Neo offers 1 USB 3 Type-C port that also works as a DisplayPort, along with another USB 2 Type-C port supporting data transfer speeds of up to 280Mb/s. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also included. Because the laptop uses a smartphone chipset, it supports 1 external display with a native resolution of 4K at a 60Hz refresh rate. Additional features include a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual speakers with Spatial Audio support, a dual-mic array and the latest macOS version out of the box. The MacBook Neo is currently available for pre-order through the Apple Store website and app, with sales beginning on Wednesday, March 11. The starting price is Rs 69,990.
