Apple Fitness+ gears up for India launch with a closer look inside its high-tech studio

The popular fitness service Apple Fitness+ has quietly been in the works long before the pandemic, says Jay Blahnik, Vice President of Fitness Technologies at the company. The idea was simple: Apple Watch users enjoy tracking their activity, but many wanted expert-led workouts and motivation — a gap Fitness+ was built to fill. With the platform now set to launch in India on December 15, the company has opened the doors to its Santa Monica studio to show how the magic happens.

The Santa Monica space is not just another gym. It’s a full-scale production studio where weekly filming spans 12 workout types plus guided meditations. Trainers switch between yoga mats, cycling stations, dance floors and rowing zones — all in one room. The studio uses 13 robotic cameras under a massive light grid to shoot in 4K UHD, delivering film-quality videos even for short five-minute workouts.

From December 15, Apple Fitness+ will be available in India at ₹149 per month or ₹999 per year and can be shared with up to five family members. Users will get access to diverse workouts — from Strength, Yoga, HIIT, Pilates, Dance, Cycling, Kickboxing to Meditation — with sessions lasting anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes. Workouts can be accessed on iPhone, iPad or Apple TV and become truly immersive when paired with an Apple Watch or AirPods Pro 3, showing live metrics like heart rate, calories burned, and Activity ring progress.

The platform is designed for everyone — beginners or fitness veterans. Features such as Custom Plans help users build a schedule tailored to their preferences for workout type, trainer, duration and music. There are curated playlists and even a new K-Pop music genre to keep motivation high. With such versatility and global readiness, Apple Fitness+ hopes to help people “meet wherever they are” on their fitness journey.
