As artificial intelligence capabilities grow more demanding, Apple is reportedly evaluating a partnership with Google to strengthen the next phase of Siri’s development. The move comes as the company works to introduce advanced generative AI features while managing rising infrastructure requirements.
According to a report by The Information, Apple has held internal discussions about using Google’s AI models and infrastructure, particularly the Gemini platform, to support more powerful Siri capabilities. The company has reportedly asked Google to explore deploying servers inside Apple-operated data centres. This would allow Google’s AI systems to function within Apple-controlled facilities instead of relying fully on external cloud networks.
No agreement has been finalised so far, and Apple is said to be reviewing multiple options as it works to modernise Siri. The upgrade aims to enable more contextual conversations and AI-driven tasks. However, development challenges have reportedly slowed progress.
Apple continues to emphasise on-device processing for privacy-focused features. At the same time, more complex AI workloads may require scalable cloud infrastructure. Currently, the company uses its Private Cloud Compute system to power certain advanced AI features. It operates what it describes as “stateless data processing”, where a user’s device sends data to fulfil an inference request. The company states that user data remains on the server only until it is returned to the device and “no user data is retained in any form after the response is returned.” Apple also says that data is not retained through logging or debugging.
The iPhone maker has already confirmed plans to integrate Gemini as an optional AI provider within its ecosystem. During a previous earnings call, CEO Tim Cook stated that Gemini support would be added alongside existing AI integrations. He clarified that Apple’s internal AI development will continue but will not replace or interfere with the Gemini partnership.
The personalised version of Siri currently in development is confirmed to be a collaboration involving Google’s AI capabilities.
