Apple Expected To Launch Its First Foldable iPhone Next Year With Four Cameras And Touch ID

Apple is reportedly preparing to unveil its first foldable iPhone in fall next year, a device that could feature a four camera setup, Touch ID, and no SIM card slot. The phone is said to rely on Apple’s own modem instead of Qualcomm’s cellular modem.

The tech giant is set to announce its iPhone 17 series in the coming weeks at its California headquarters, but fresh reports suggest that the foldable iPhone is already in development for a possible release alongside the iPhone 18 lineup in 2026.

According to reports, the foldable iPhone has been internally codenamed V68 and may resemble Samsung’s Z Fold models with a tablet like form factor. The device is expected to include four cameras, one on the front, one on the inside, and two on the back. Interestingly, it will not include a SIM card slot and may bring back Touch ID instead of Face ID, which some see as a step back from current models.

Suppliers are said to have started working on the device, with production expected to ramp up early next year. The foldable iPhone is currently being tested in black and white colour options, though more variations could be introduced later.

Reports also suggest that Apple had initially considered using on cell touch display technology for the device, but concerns about visible creases and air gaps led the company to explore in cell touchscreens. This updated technology is expected to reduce the crease effect and improve touch accuracy, making the foldable iPhone more seamless to use.

Earlier leaks hinted that the foldable iPhone might debut alongside the iPhone 18 Air, iPhone 18 Pro, and Pro Max, while the standard iPhone 18 could be delayed until 2027.

If the current timeline holds, Apple’s first foldable iPhone could mark one of the company’s most ambitious hardware shifts in years, aiming to compete directly with existing foldable smartphones in the global market.
