Apple expected to bring Samsung privacy display technology to MacBook line-up

A new industry leak suggests that Apple could adopt Samsung’s Privacy Display technology for future MacBook models by 2029. The feature, recently confirmed by Samsung for its upcoming flagship smartphones, is designed to protect on screen content from being viewed by people nearby. If implemented, it would mark a major upgrade in display privacy for Apple’s laptop line-up.

According to tipster Ice Universe, citing a report from Omdia, Samsung’s latest Privacy Display solution may eventually be integrated into MacBooks. Unlike traditional privacy screen protectors that permanently dim displays, this technology is expected to offer a customisable privacy experience. Users would be able to control how visible their screens are from different angles, especially in crowded spaces.

Samsung has already previewed the Privacy Display feature through teaser videos and it is expected to debut with the Galaxy S26 series, likely starting with the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The system combines hardware and software to limit side angle visibility and prevent shoulder surfing in public places such as buses, elevators and queues. Users can reportedly protect specific parts of their screen, including notification pop ups and selected apps, based on their privacy preferences.

The feature was reportedly spotted in the Samsung Tips app within a One UI 8.5 beta build. It can be activated through the Settings app or a toggle in the Quick Panel. Reports suggest that the functionality will require Samsung Display’s Flex Magic Pixel technology and may not be available on the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ models. The new Galaxy S26 lineup is expected to launch on February 25 at the Galaxy Unpacked event in San Francisco, California. If the leak proves accurate, Apple’s adoption of this display innovation could redefine laptop screen privacy in the coming years.
