Apple has significantly expanded its iPhone supply chain in India, with nearly 45 companies now part of its growing ecosystem. This includes both Indian component makers and firms handling subassembly for the US-based technology giant.
“One in five iPhones are now made in India due to the expanding ecosystem of Apple,” said an official. Another official added that “Apple, now in its fifth year of operations, has strongly pivoted to bringing multiple Indian equipment manufacturers into its supply chain. Along with some big Indian firms, there are over 20 Indian MSMEs who have now joined the Apple supply chain.”
At present, iPhone production is spread across five factories located in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. However, the larger component and subassembly network spans states such as Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Haryana.
The Indian companies now part of Apple’s supply chain include Tata Electronics, Aequs, Jabil, Microplastics, ATL, Salcomp, Foxlink, Motherson, Bharat Forge, Wipro PARI, Hindalco, Avary, SFO Technologies, Titan Engineering & Automation Ltd, and VVDN.
India’s push to strengthen the local ecosystem began after Apple decided to manufacture its flagship iPhones in the country under the 2020 smartphone PLI scheme.
Between 2021-22 and 2024-25, Apple’s Indian ecosystem produced iPhones worth 45 billion dollars, of which 76 percent, valued at 34 billion dollars, were exported, according to government data. Smartphone exports, largely driven by iPhones, became India’s top export in 2024-25, rising from the 167th rank a decade earlier.
According to reports, Apple suppliers manufactured iPhones worth 14 billion dollars in India during FY24, accounting for 14 percent of the global total. This means around one in seven iPhones worldwide were made in India. Current production includes iPhone models 12, 13, 14, 15, and the complete iPhone 16 lineup.
Foxconn remains the leading manufacturer, accounting for the largest share of iPhones produced in India.
