Strengthening its long-term commitment to India, Apple has announced a major expansion of its skill development efforts for workers across its supplier ecosystem, alongside the launch of a new education hub in the country.
The initiative is part of Apple’s broader push to support workforce development in regions where it has a strong manufacturing footprint. The newly launched education hub aims to provide accessible learning opportunities that allow employees to build technical skills beyond their routine factory roles.
The education hub has been set up in partnership with the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) and will start offering new courses from March. According to Apple, the hub will function as a collaborative learning space where trainers and students can engage directly with educators specialising in digital literacy and Swift coding.
“We’re thrilled to expand our technical training courses in India, giving thousands of employees the opportunity to learn valuable new skills and explore new paths for career growth,” Sarah Chandler, Vice President of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation at Apple, said in a statement.
Under the programme, faculty members from MAHE will train supplier instructors, who will then roll out these courses to larger groups of workers. Starting with Tata Electronics, the training modules will be made available to employees at more than 25 supplier facilities across India.
The courses are designed to help workers gain capabilities in digital literacy, Swift coding, robotics, automation technology, and smart manufacturing. Apple said these offerings are part of its global $50 million Supplier Employee Development Fund.
With this expansion, Apple and its partners now provide more than 75 different courses for supplier employees in India. The company had introduced a robotics training programme in December 2024, and following strong early adoption, it plans to scale it further this year.
As part of the next phase, Apple will train and certify factory educators at dedicated robotics labs. These educators will then customise the curriculum and deliver hands-on training sessions at their respective manufacturing sites.
Apple said the expanded programmes are intended to help supplier employees improve technical proficiency, open up new career pathways, and support the evolving needs of advanced manufacturing in India.
