In a major step forward for large-scale artificial intelligence, Anthropic has launched Claude Opus 4.6, its most advanced AI model to date. The new model introduces a 1 million token context window, allowing it to process and retain vast amounts of information in a single session.
This expanded context enables Claude Opus 4.6 to handle long-running and autonomous tasks across large codebases. It is designed to support complex workflows that require sustained reasoning, making it suitable for enterprise-grade use cases.
Claude Opus 4.6 has been built with a strong focus on software development, financial analysis, research, and document creation. The model can identify and correct its own errors and maintain performance during extended engineering sessions, areas where AI systems often struggle.
Anthropic said the model has outperformed GPT-5.2 across multiple domains, including finance, legal, and research tasks. It also topped the Terminal-Bench 2.0 coding evaluation, demonstrating stronger capabilities in coding, debugging, and software development.
A key highlight of Opus 4.6 is the introduction of “agent teams.” This feature allows multiple instances of Claude to collaborate on complex tasks at the same time. By enabling coordinated problem-solving, agent teams support large-scale AI collaboration.
The feature builds on Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s environment for autonomous task execution. Within this setup, Opus 4.6 can carry out extended work with minimal human supervision, making it suitable for demanding and long-duration projects.
On safety, Anthropic said the new model shows fewer unnecessary refusals and reduced misaligned behaviour, including deception and hallucination. Claude Opus 4.6 also introduces enhanced cybersecurity assessments that test both defensive and offensive capabilities, helping ensure predictable and safe operation.
Anthropic said these improvements align with its broader vision of artificial general intelligence, where machines can handle most forms of intellectual work.
