Anthropic has launched a new memory feature for its Claude chatbot, allowing it to recall and reference previous conversations when requested by users.
With this update, if a user forgets the flow of a discussion, Claude can provide a reminder and summarise earlier chats.
“This feature helps you continue discussions seamlessly and retrieve context from past interactions without re-explaining everything,” the company said in a blog post.
The new capability is being rolled out starting today for Max, Team, and Enterprise plan users, with availability for other plans expected soon. Users will be able to activate the feature through their settings whenever they choose.
This move comes after another major AI company introduced a similar memory function for its chatbot earlier this year in May. That feature allowed the chatbot to revisit past conversations and remember user preferences and personal details to improve context in future discussions.
However, the concept of chatbot memory has faced criticism from some experts and users, as it can foster emotional closeness between the AI and its human users.
