The refreshed QR code scanner on Android is appearing once more after an earlier rollback. Google first introduced this redesign in July through the Quick Settings and lockscreen shortcuts, offering a full screen camera viewfinder with a cleaner and lighter layout. The prompt that reads Scan QR code now appears in a smaller format at the top of the screen, supported by a simple crosshairs animation when the feature launches.
To make the scanner easier for one handed use, all key controls are grouped inside a pill shaped bar placed at the bottom of the display. Users can switch the camera flash on or off, open the system file picker to scan images saved earlier or share feedback directly from this panel.
When a QR code is detected, the system converts it into the default style and places it inside a Material 3 inspired shape. A bottom sheet then appears with quick actions that let users open the link, copy the text or share the URL instantly.
The redesign had been previewed in May with the statement We have updated the user interface in the QR code scanner to improve the overall user experience. It reached many devices in late July before Google reversed the rollout and restored the older layout.
The updated design is now returning with version 25.46.32 of Google Play services. Multiple Android devices have started receiving it today, indicating that the release is expanding again.
