Andhra Pradesh Unveils ₹3,400 Crore Space City and Defence Hubs to Boost Innovation

Andhra Pradesh has announced two major projects aimed at positioning the state as a leader in space technology and defence manufacturing. Together, these initiatives are expected to attract investments worth ₹3,400 crore and significantly strengthen India’s push for technological self-reliance.

The first project is the Space City in Tirupati, being developed in partnership with Hyderabad-based Skyroot Aerospace, a company founded by former ISRO scientists. With an investment of ₹400 crore, the Space City will focus on private satellite launches and cost-effective small launch vehicles. Tirupati’s strategic advantage as the home of ISRO’s Propulsion Complex makes it the ideal location for building integrated launch facilities, further boosting India’s presence in the global commercial space sector.

Alongside this, the government is setting up two defence manufacturing hubs in Madakasira with an investment of ₹3,000 crore. These hubs will focus on aerospace components, defence electronics, and weapon systems.

They are expected to create thousands of jobs, attract micro, small, and medium enterprises, and establish collaborations with global defence companies. The hubs will also integrate with India’s defence corridor projects to enhance the nation’s military production capabilities.

Speaking about the state’s vision, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the projects reflect Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to “leverage science and technology for economic growth, create world-class infrastructure for private space ventures, and strengthen India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission.”

These initiatives are expected to drive exports, attract foreign investment, and nurture a strong ecosystem of startups, research institutions, and advanced manufacturing in Andhra Pradesh, firmly placing the state on the map as a national powerhouse in space and defence.
