The Andhra Pradesh government has announced the formation of a 360-degree Global Capability Centres (GCC) Advisory Council, a strategic step aimed at positioning the state as a leader in the digital economy.
The council brings together CXOs of global corporations, industry bodies such as NASSCOM, business councils, consulting leaders, real estate developers, and top academic institutions. This collaboration is expected to accelerate GCC investments and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position as a hub for digital innovation.
GCCs, the strategic units of multinational corporations that manage functions such as research and development, IT, finance, procurement, and customer services, are rapidly expanding worldwide. Unlike outsourcing, GCCs are wholly owned by parent companies, ensuring innovation, efficiency, and deeper integration with global operations.
India is already home to over 1,600 GCCs, employing nearly 1.6 million professionals. With the new council, Andhra Pradesh aims to capture the next wave of investment and establish itself as a preferred destination for these centres.
The GCC Advisory Council has been tasked with preparing a five-year roadmap for the sector in the state. Key priorities include creating a future-ready talent ecosystem through collaborations with IIT Tirupati, IIM Visakhapatnam, and skill development programmes, driving innovation and R&D through global partnerships, and building world-class infrastructure such as IT parks, plug-and-play facilities, and Grade-A commercial spaces. The council will also oversee the review and implementation of IT and GCC Policy (4.0) and lead branding efforts through roadshows across the US, Europe, and Asia.
The government has already approved a three-month schedule of national and international roadshows to promote Andhra Pradesh as a preferred destination for GCCs. These initiatives are expected to draw significant investment, create thousands of high-value jobs, and enhance the state’s role in the global technology landscape.
With this council in place, Andhra Pradesh is set to unlock a new era of growth powered by global capability centres, strengthening its digital economy for the future.
