In a development that underlines the rapid scale-up of global AI capacity, two major technology companies have deepened their collaboration to support future artificial intelligence workloads.
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Meta Platforms on February 24 announced a 6 GW agreement to power Meta’s next generation of AI infrastructure across multiple generations of AMD Instinct GPUs. The deal expands the companies’ existing strategic partnership and aligns their roadmaps across silicon, systems and software.
The first deployment under the agreement will use a custom AMD Instinct GPU based on the MI450 architecture. These AI platforms are designed specifically for Meta’s workloads at gigawatt scale. Shipments for the initial 1 GW deployment are expected to begin in the second half of 2026. The systems will also include 6th Gen AMD EPYC CPUs, codenamed “Venice,” running ROCm software.
The AI infrastructure will be built on AMD’s Helios rack-scale architecture, which was developed jointly with Meta through the Open Compute Project. The design supports scalable, rack-level AI infrastructure.
Dr Lisa Su, chair and CEO of AMD, said, “We are proud to expand our strategic partnership with Meta as they push the boundaries of AI at unprecedented scale. This multi-year, multi-generation collaboration across Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs and rack-scale AI systems aligns our roadmaps to deliver high-performance, energy-efficient infrastructure optimised for Meta’s workloads.”
Alongside GPUs, the partnership also expands the use of AMD EPYC processors. Meta has deployed millions of EPYC CPUs and large volumes of AMD Instinct MI300 and MI350 series GPUs across its global infrastructure. Meta will now be a lead customer for the 6th Gen EPYC “Venice” processors and “Verano,” a next-generation EPYC chip with workload-specific optimisations.
Mark Zuckerberg said, “We are excited to form a long-term partnership with AMD to deploy efficient inference compute and deliver personal superintelligence.”
As part of the agreement, AMD has issued Meta a performance-based warrant for up to 160 million shares. The first tranche vests with the initial 1 GW of shipments, with further tranches linked to scaling up to 6 GW, stock price thresholds, and key technical and commercial milestones.
Jean Hu, EVP, CFO and treasurer of AMD, said the partnership is expected to drive multi-year revenue growth and support long-term value creation.
