Amazon opens major Bengaluru campus, strengthens long-term India commitment

In a move that reinforces its expanding presence in India, Amazon has inaugurated its second-largest office in Asia in Bengaluru. The newly opened campus spans 1.1 million sq ft and is designed to accommodate more than 7,000 employees across multiple business functions.

The new facility will house teams working in e-commerce, operations, payments technology, and seller services. The building was inaugurated by M B Patil, Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development.

Built on a 5-acre plot, the office is located around 15 km from Kempegowda International Airport. It is Amazon’s second-largest single-building corporate office globally. The campus features meeting rooms, huddle spaces, breakout zones, and event areas that can host over 200 people. Employees will also have access to recreational facilities, cafeterias, and outdoor spaces.

Sustainability has been a key focus of the project. The development includes initiatives aimed at reducing embodied and operational carbon emissions. These efforts align with Amazon’s net-zero carbon goal by 2040 under The Climate Pledge initiative.

Highlighting the company’s long-term plans, Samir Kumar, Country Manager of Amazon India, said that India continues to be strategically important to Amazon’s global operations. He said that as the company serves customers in India and worldwide, it will keep investing in infrastructure, technology, and talent with a long-term outlook. Amazon has invested more than $40 billion in India so far and plans to invest an additional $35 billion by 2030.

Speaking about Amazon’s presence in Karnataka, Patil noted that the company operates 10 corporate offices, 7 fulfillment centers, 3 sort centers, and over 130 last-mile delivery stations in the state. Karnataka is also home to more than 80,000 sellers using Amazon’s marketplace. He said that large campuses like this generate jobs, strengthen the local ecosystem, and support India’s digital economy, adding that the state welcomes investments that build long-term capacity and expand workforce opportunities.
