A new feature is giving independent authors an easier way to release their ebooks in more languages. Amazon has launched Kindle Translate in beta for a limited group of Kindle Direct Publishing authors, offering AI generated translations at no extra cost.
In its first phase, Kindle Translate can translate between English and Spanish and from German to English. Authors can choose the languages they want to publish in, set individual prices for each translated edition and review the translated text before it goes live. Amazon says that “all translations are automatically evaluated for accuracy before publication” and that ebooks produced with the tool will display a “Kindle Translate” label.
Amazon noted that “less than 5 percent of titles” on its platform are currently available in more than one language. The company aims to change this by giving writers a simple way to expand their reach. Books translated with Kindle Translate will also qualify for KDP Select and Kindle Unlimited, allowing authors to earn through additional programmes.
The launch follows a similar update from Amazon’s audiobook service, which recently introduced an AI narration tool that supports multiple languages.
