Amazon has announced plans to invest 1.4 billion euros, which is around 1.63 billion dollars, in the Netherlands over the next three years. This marks the company’s largest investment in the country since it began operating there in 2020.
The company currently employs around 1,000 people in the Netherlands. However, its online retail presence still remains behind the market leader operated by a major Dutch retail group.
Eva Faict, who leads Amazon’s operations in Belgium and the Netherlands, said, “The Netherlands is an important growth market for us. These investments will allow us to better serve our customers and improve our services.”
Speaking in an interview with a Dutch financial publication, she added that part of the investment will support the development of artificial intelligence tools for sellers who use Amazon’s platform to reach customers.
Earlier this month, Amazon also confirmed a 1.16 billion dollar investment in Belgium, further showing its plans to expand across the region.
With this move, Amazon aims to strengthen its position in one of the euro zone’s key economies while supporting local businesses through advanced technology and improved logistics.
