Aman Gottumukkala, an Indian-origin developer known for creating an AI-powered coding assistant, has announced that he is joining xAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk.
Gottumukkala will work on developing advanced AI systems designed to help programmers write and manage software more efficiently. The move comes as AI companies focus heavily on building coding assistants that can automate programming tasks and reduce the time required to develop software.
He first gained attention in the developer community as the founder of Firebender, an AI-powered coding assistant built for Android developers. The tool integrates with development environments such as Android Studio and JetBrains IDEs, helping programmers generate code, organise projects and streamline routine development work.
Firebender became widely known among developers for automating everyday programming tasks. The startup also stood out because of its small team. According to available details, the product scaled to millions of dollars in revenue while being developed by just 3 people.
Before launching Firebender, Gottumukkala worked as a software engineer at Paradigm, contributing to technology projects related to the crypto ecosystem. He was also selected as a KP Fellowship participant, a competitive programme that connects engineers and founders with venture capital firms and startup mentors in Silicon Valley.
Gottumukkala studied computer science at Texas A&M University, graduating in 2021. Earlier, he attended the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science, a selective programme focused on science and engineering education.
Confirming his new role, Gottumukkala wrote online, “I’m joining @SpaceX and @xai to build the best coding AI.” He also reflected on building Firebender with a small team, saying, “For the last couple years I founded the most widely used coding agent for Android, scaling it to millions in revenue with a team of 3.”
Speaking about the pace of AI progress, he added, “I’ve watched model capabilities compound at a staggering rate and we’re clearly on the brink of recursive superintelligence. This is the most important problem to solve in history and requires an immense amount of resources to realise.”
He further said that xAI offers the computing power and talent needed for such ambitions. “xAI is the place to build the future. Frontier compute, extraordinary talent, and a strong hold on physical intelligence and space.”
He also encouraged engineers interested in working on AI challenges to connect with the team, writing, “If you want to focus on executing towards the most important problems of our time, DM me. We’re in challenger mode and we are building the winning team.”
With his background in building AI developer tools, Gottumukkala will now contribute to efforts aimed at creating systems that help programmers build software faster.
