UAE introduces first AI physician assistant ‘Amal’

In a major step towards AI-driven healthcare transformation, Emirates Health Services has partnered with Boston Health AI to roll out “Amal,” the UAE’s first AI Physician Assistant. The initiative was unveiled at World Health Exhibition Dubai 2026, one of the world’s largest healthcare gatherings, which recorded over 400,000 attendees.

The launch marks the first deployment of a multi-agentic AI-powered clinical intelligence platform within the UAE’s public health system. Through this move, EHS strengthens its position as a regional leader in digital healthcare innovation across the UAE and the wider GCC region. During WHX Dubai 2026, the Boston Health AI booth at the EHS pavilion drew healthcare leaders and delegations from over 40 countries and more than 200 institutions, highlighting strong global interest in the platform.

Amal is designed as an AI avatar that conducts detailed and conversational medical interviews with patients before they meet clinicians. Using physician-grade clinical reasoning, the system captures and organises patient histories and symptoms into clear, clinically relevant summaries. For patients, Amal offers an empathetic intake experience in their preferred language, helping ensure complete and accurate history capture while reducing wait times and improving the overall quality of care.

For clinicians, the platform delivers structured and actionable summaries before each consultation. This reduces cognitive load and documentation burden, allowing doctors to focus more on clinical decision-making and patient engagement. From a system perspective, standardised documentation, improved operational efficiency, and data-driven insights support scalable and sustainable healthcare delivery. The platform runs on UAE-hosted infrastructure with full data sovereignty, end-to-end encryption, and strict compliance with national healthcare data protection regulations. Developed through collaboration between physicians and engineers, and refined through continuous feedback, the system has already supported over 30,000 patients globally.
