Alvarez & Marsal to Triple Global Capability Centre (GCC) Staff in India by 2028

Consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) has announced plans to significantly expand its workforce in India, aiming to nearly triple its global capability centre (GCC) staff to 2,000 employees by the end of 2028. A senior executive confirmed the development, positioning the firm among the growing number of multinationals tapping into India’s large talent pool.

GCCs once seen as low-cost back offices, have now evolved into high-value hubs driving innovation, operations, finance, and research and development for multinational corporations. India has become a leading destination for such centres, with companies like JPMorgan Chase, Amazon, Walmart, American Express, Microsoft, SAP, and Novo Nordisk already operating GCCs in the country.

New York-headquartered A&M currently employs around 700 professionals at its global capability centre in Gurugram, near New Delhi. The firm now plans to set up another centre in Bengaluru in the coming months, according to Manish Goyal, Managing Director.

To strengthen its GCCs, the company intends to recruit extensively, including hiring about 150 professionals this year from leading institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology. These hires will support core business areas such as transaction and tax advisory, corporate restructuring, and turnaround services, Goyal added.

“We expect this (the India operation) to be an inverted pyramid,” Goyal said. “We do not expect us to have a very large bottom with freshers.”

Currently, A&M’s Indian global centres collaborate with nearly 30 of its business units across six continents. In addition to its GCCs, the firm also operates corporate offices in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Gurugram, which serve clients in areas such as mergers and restructuring.

The expansion highlights India’s growing importance as a global hub for professional services, offering specialised skills and innovation capabilities for multinational organisations.
