Akasa Air Expands ‘Pets on Akasa’ Service with New Benefits for Travellers

Akasa Air has announced significant enhancements to its popular pet travel service, ‘Pets on Akasa’. Passengers can now travel with two pets in the cabin, up from the previous limit of one. The upgraded service is designed to offer greater convenience and flexibility for pet owners. Since its launch in November 2022, the service has successfully transported over 8,500 pets across India.

Key improvements introduced in May 2024 include increasing the maximum allowable pet weight in the cabin to 10 kilograms and extending the validity of pet travel certificates to 15 days, making the travel process smoother for pet parents.

‘Pets on Akasa’ currently operates across 24 domestic cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Lucknow. Passengers travelling with pets enjoy several complimentary services, such as pre-booked window seats, priority check-in, priority baggage delivery, and Board First, ensuring a premium travel experience. Akasa Air has provided specialised training for its customer care teams, airport staff, and in-flight crew to maintain high standards of care, safety, and comfort for pets.

Additionally, the airline has partnered with Umeed for Animals Foundation, a Gurgaon-based animal rehabilitation NGO, to implement best practices in pet care. The airline has also reduced the booking window for pets to 24 hours before departure, down from 48 hours, accommodating last-minute travel plans.

Akasa Air, which serves over 21 million passengers, operates a modern fleet of 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with 226 more planes on order. The fleet is designed to reduce fuel consumption, lower carbon emissions, and provide a quieter, more comfortable cabin environment.
