Google has appointed Ajay Chitkara as its new Managing Director for Indo Pacific and Global Infrastructure, effective September 2025. Based in India, Chitkara will be responsible for driving Google’s infrastructure strategy and investments across the Indo Pacific region, which accounts for nearly half of the company’s global user base.
Chitkara brings with him over two decades of leadership experience in telecommunications, digital infrastructure, and logistics. Prior to joining Google, he was the CEO and Managing Director of Ecom Express Limited, one of India’s leading technology-enabled logistics companies. He has also held board positions at Hughes Communications India and Nxtra by Airtel, a subsidiary focused on data center services.
His career at Bharti Airtel spanned more than nine years, where he rose to the role of Director and CEO of Airtel Business. In this capacity, Chitkara was instrumental in scaling the company’s enterprise business and expanding its global network services. Earlier in his career, he also contributed to the development of large-scale cable and global infrastructure systems.
At Google, Chitkara’s mandate will center on strengthening digital and cloud infrastructure, fostering regional partnerships, and preparing networks to support the next phase of artificial intelligence–driven innovation. Industry experts see his appointment as a strategic move, aligning with Google’s long-term focus on AI infrastructure, digital transformation, and scaling cloud services in high-growth markets.
