Tianjin is preparing to host the largest-ever Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, scheduled from August 31 to September 1, bringing together leaders from more than 20 nations.
This year’s summit will highlight innovation and technology, with a humanoid robot named Xiao He deployed to assist delegates and media representatives. The robot Xiao He has been designed to provide multilingual support, answer queries, and help journalists with real-time information.
Ahead of the event, Xiao He interacted with media and introduced itself by saying, “I’m Xiao He, a cutting-edge humanoid AI assistant designed for the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Tianjin. As a highly specialised service robot, I provide multilingual support, real-time information processing and protocol-compliant interaction capabilities.”
The robot Xiao further explained, “My systems integrate advanced emotional recognition algorithms, adaptive learning modules and comprehensive knowledge databases to facilitate seamless communication between international delegates, media personnel and summit organisers. My operational parameters emphasise cultural neutrality, factual precision and continuous performance optimisation throughout the summit duration.”
Highlighting its language proficiency, Xiao He shared details of summit arrangements. It said, “Key arrangements include designated for foreign and domestic media… The event will showcase cultural activities like Tianjin Yangliuqing, woodblock prints and traditional craftsmanship demonstrations in the Intangible Cultural Heritage Interactive Experience Zone…”
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, established in 2001, has grown into one of the largest regional organisations in the world. Its full members include China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Iran, while Belarus, Afghanistan, and Mongolia hold observer status.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently concluded a two-day official visit to Japan for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Describing the visit as highly productive, he said in a post on X, “Productive outcomes during a productive visit. May India-Japan friendship scale newer heights in the times to come!”
The Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Tianjin for the SCO Summit, where he will hold key bilateral meetings with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
