Ahmedabad cyber police uncover fraud network targeting Canadian citizens

Authorities in Ahmedabad have exposed an alleged international fraud operation after conducting a raid at a residential apartment in the Chandkheda area of the city.

The operation was carried out by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Police at a flat in Sopan Heights on New CG Road. During the raid, officers arrested 4 suspects identified as Kush Patel, Harsh Patel, Ashu Patel and Sunil Rawat. The group is accused of cheating citizens in Canada and extracting large sums of money through online scams.

According to investigators, the accused contacted foreign nationals while pretending to be officials from the Canada Revenue Agency or representatives of banks. Victims were allegedly told that their bank accounts were under threat. The callers then convinced them to share personal and financial information.

Police said the suspects used specialised software and fake digital identities to gain the trust of their targets. After establishing contact, victims were instructed to transfer money through gift card vouchers from different companies. The transfers were presented as a way to secure their bank accounts.

During the search operation, officials recovered several items used in the alleged fraud activity. These included a call script, 6 laptops, 5 mobile phones, headsets and cash amounting to ₹1.87 lakh.

Initial findings indicate that the money collected through the scam was transferred to the bank account of another individual named Shivang. He is currently absconding and is believed to be part of the network.

Police have registered a case against the 4 arrested suspects and have launched a search operation to locate the fifth accused. Investigators are also examining the wider scope of the operation to determine whether victims in other countries or cities were targeted.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing as they attempt to trace the full extent of the fraud network and identify additional individuals involved in the scheme.
