Agra Police have launched “Operation Codebreak,” a new citywide initiative aimed at identifying, disrupting, and dismantling cybercriminal networks. The comprehensive crackdown has already led to the arrest of four individuals and the filing of First Information Reports (FIRs) against 910 others across at least three police stations in the city.
“Operation Codebreak” specifically targets various forms of cyber fraud, including OTP (One-Time Password) scams, phishing attacks, UPI (Unified Payments Interface) frauds, and the crucial element of mule account operations, which are frequently used to launder illicitly gained funds.
The Agra police are leveraging advanced analytics and digital investigation tools, primarily through the Pratibimb Portal. Developed by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Pratibimb is a GIS-based (Geographic Information System) platform that enables real-time monitoring of cybercriminal activities and their infrastructure nationwide.Â
This allows for deep IP tracing, digital footprint mapping, and account link analysis, significantly enhancing law enforcement’s ability to register FIRs under the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) across multiple locations.
DCP City (Agra) Sonam Kumar emphasized the evolving nature of cybercrime, stating, “Our aim through Operation Codebreak is to stay one step ahead with technology-led policing and a citizen-centric response.”
Key components of the initiative involve online Cyber JanSunwai at police stations utilizing Kanban methodology, which directly links complainants to the Cyber Cell for quicker account freezing and fraud resolution, especially in instances of digital arrests and financial scams.
The police are also collaborating closely with banks, telecom companies, and inter-agency cyber units to ensure rapid preventive measures and fund recovery. Several arrests have already occurred in recognized high-risk areas.
Agra is reportedly among the first cities to fully adopt Pratibimb’s real-time GIS infrastructure mapping to proactively tackle cybercrime, with authorities hoping this model will soon be replicated in other cybercrime-prone districts across the country. The launch of “Operation Codebreak” signifies a robust and technologically advanced approach by Agra Police to enhance cybersecurity and protect its citizens from increasingly sophisticated digital threats.
