Adobe unveils AI assistant for Photoshop and new creative tools in Firefly

Adobe has announced several new artificial intelligence tools and features at the Adobe Max 2025 event held on Tuesday. The most important updates include new AI assistants for Photoshop, Express, and Firefly. The company is also introducing AI powered audio and video generation tools within Firefly. In addition, Adobe is launching a new Firefly model and adding partner models to offer users more flexibility in their creative work.

Adobe has been investing in AI for the last two years. It created the Firefly platform to provide a range of AI capabilities using both its own models and third party models. At this event, it revealed new features for existing platforms and introduced new tools to improve creative workflows.

The company introduced the Firefly Image Model 5 as its next generation core technology. It offers native four megapixel resolution, high photorealistic quality, and prompt based editing in one large language model. The focus of this model is on multi layered editing.

After generating an image, users can directly touch and edit specific elements for more control or write a prompt and let AI complete the task. The model treats every asset in an image as a separate layer and allows individual editing.

Adobe is also expanding its support for third party models. ElevenLabs audio generation models and Topaz image generation models have now been added to the Firefly catalogue.

Another major update is the introduction of custom Firefly models for individual users. Earlier, this feature was only available for enterprise clients. It lets users upload their own images and train the model to match their unique style. This will help maintain visual consistency. It is currently in beta and users can join the waitlist.

Adobe is also improving its audio tools. The new Generate Soundtrack tool can create studio quality and fully licensed music tracks. The Generate Speech tool can create voice overs. There is also a Firefly video editor tool that can generate, organise, trim, and sequence video clips. The first two tools are in beta and the video editor can be accessed by joining a waitlist.

The Prompt to Edit tool supports Firefly Image Model 5, Googles Nano Banana, and Black Forest Labs Black Flux model.
